How AvocAI grades work
AvocAI grades are AI-generated assessments based on the ingredient list visible in user-submitted photographs. The AI cross-references ingredients against peer-reviewed scientific literature and regulatory guidance from sources including PubMed/PMC, FDA, EFSA, IARC, WHO, OEHHA, and AAP. A grade of F or Red does not mean a product is illegal, recalled, or unsafe for all individuals — it means one or more ingredients have documented health concerns in the scientific literature at the time of analysis.
Scientific basis
AvocAI uses sources including PubMed/PMC peer-reviewed studies, FDA regulatory decisions, EFSA opinions, IARC classifications, WHO guidelines, OEHHA assessments, and AAP/AHA clinical guidelines. Specific source citations are available in our Sources Library.
Limitations
Food libel notice
AvocAI grades constitute opinions based on documented scientific evidence, not statements of fact about product safety as defined by any regulatory agency. All negative assessments are grounded in peer-reviewed literature or regulatory actions cited in our Sources Library.
Not medical advice
AvocAI does not provide medical, nutritional, dietary, or clinical advice. Grades and analysis are for informational and educational purposes only and are not a substitute for advice from a licensed physician, registered dietitian, or other qualified health professional. Do not use AvocAI results to make decisions about medication, treatment, allergy management, or medical conditions.
Brand dispute process
Brands who believe a product has been analyzed incorrectly may contact us at info@avocai.io with the product name, UPC, current ingredient list, and specific objection. AvocAI will review within 30 business days. This process does not constitute an admission of error.
